Marcelo Giugale, professor of international economics at Georgetown University and former senior World Bank official, predicted that “Paraguay will be the next star country in Latin America.” Watch the video where the strengths of our country are highlighted.
“Paraguay will be the next star country in Latin America,” said economist Marcelo Giugale, who highlighted Paraguay as the potential investment market for this year. It was during the “Oppenheimer presents” program on CNN.
“When do investors ask you Which are the Latin American countries with the most future, “What do you answer?” presenter Andrés Oppenheimer asked his interviewee. Giugale responded: “The investor looks for countries that no one has discovered. Not only that he is going to do well, but that no one knows that he is going to do well.”
And he exemplified his theory: “If you tell me Uruguay, yes, they have already discovered it. Everyone knows that Uruguay is well managed. It has good institutions, a very solid public account, and a very solid financial situation. A technocratic management, they do not go from right to left of politicians, but things are always moving forward. A country that claims to be in the world.”
“Investments are going to come to Paraguay,” says economist
Giugale noted that everything mentioned is very positive, but investors already know that. “And then it is already in the prices that one pays when buying Uruguayan assets,” he analyzed.
He remarked: “The Latin American country that the market has not yet discovered is Paraguay. Paraguay is on its way to having everything that Uruguay has, in terms of institutions, economic management, productive possibilities, but the market has not yet discovered it.”
According to the expert, “you will begin to discover it in a very short time. Investments are going to come to Paraguay, they are also going to bet on their bonds and so on, but the market is not there yet.”
“I think the question really is the next success story , not which one is successful today,” he concluded.
